SwitchBot Curtain 3
Add scheduled opening and closing to compatible existing curtains without installing an entirely new motorised rail.
Source-based assessment
- Main advantage
- Add scheduled opening and closing to compatible existing curtains without installing an entirely new motorised rail.
- Main drawback
- Compatibility comes first. Centre-opening pairs need two units, and some integrations need a separate compatible hub.
Should you buy it?
Consider it for awkward-to-reach curtains or a repeated opening and closing routine that you would actually automate.
Skip it: your curtains already glide easily and you enjoy opening them yourself. Congratulations: you are the smart-home system.
Research-based buying assessment · Sources checked 12 October 2026. We have not tested this product ourselves. Manufacturer specifications are identified below; suitability and value judgments are our editorial reasoning.
The model, without the marketing fog
- Choose the correct Rod or rail configuration; check the official compatibility guidance for the exact installation.
- The EU listing states that centre-opening curtains require two devices.
- App control and schedules are listed; voice control and Matter integration depend on compatible hub hardware.
- QuietDrift trades speed for quieter movement. Manufacturer sound figures are not our measurements.
Convenience or a solution to a real nuisance?
Automating an effortless two-second task is optional. Automating a high, heavy or inconvenient curtain can be a more meaningful improvement. Start by naming the nuisance: reaching the rail, closing a large window each evening, or establishing a predictable daylight routine. That tells you whether this is useful equipment or simply entertaining equipment.
Scheduled curtains can create a regular opening and closing pattern while you are away. They should not be treated as a security system. Likewise, adjusting daylight may suit your room, but we have not calculated heating, cooling or electricity savings from this device.
Measure the rail before imagining the automation
Check the rail type, dimensions, joins, brackets, curtain heading and the space available around the device. Pull the curtains through their full travel by hand and notice sticking points. A motor should not be your plan for repairing a bad rail.
A telescopic rod deserves particular attention because the joint and diameter change can affect travel. Send a photo and measurements to support when the fitting is unclear. A product page saying it fits many rails is not a personal guarantee that it fits yours.
Installation and the first useful week
Follow the fitting and positioning instructions, calibrate the travel and run full open/close checks while you are present. Try the positions you actually use, not only completely open or closed. Check that household members can still operate the curtains in the recommended way.
Set a small number of useful schedules first. Confirm quieter movement is acceptable in the bedroom and that its slower travel fits the schedule. Adding ten automations before one works reliably is how a curtain becomes a project manager.
What you may need beyond the first box
Count devices per window, then check which remote, voice or smart-home functions require a hub. A centre-opening pair can change the apparent price immediately. For several windows, compare the complete configuration with alternative motorised-rail solutions.
Charging remains a routine to plan. An optional solar accessory should be assessed against the actual window position and available light. We do not promise unlimited battery life or self-sufficient charging. Keep a practical way to reach the device for maintenance.
Daily trade-offs you should accept consciously
Small motors, mounting pieces and positioning components may be visible. Consider whether you will mind them on a pale rail or prominent window. Listen to a relevant demonstration or buy with a sensible return policy if motor noise is a deciding factor; we have not tested sound levels in your room.
Software adds convenience and another dependency. Confirm the essential operations available without the integrations you do not intend to buy. Think through what you will do if the battery is low, the app is unavailable or the device requires recalibration.
Alternatives, buying time and our verdict
Choose manual operation when access is easy and the routine is already comfortable. Consider a properly specified motorised rail when renovating or fitting new curtains, particularly if you want a more integrated installation. A retrofit device is strongest when preserving existing compatible hardware matters.
Buy once fit has been confirmed, then compare the full set of devices and accessories with local delivery and returns. Do not buy the wrong fitting because the sale ends tonight. Our conditional verdict: appealing for a specific repeated nuisance; unnecessary for a curtain that was never a problem.
